This tour is a great opportunity to get to know “the other side of Lisbon”, exploring Cacilhas, visiting a real frigate and the majestic sanctuary of Cristo-Rei (Christ the King Sanctuary ).

“If Portugal is spared from the War, a Monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be erected facing Lisbon, as a visible sign of how God, through Love, desires to conquer for Himself all mankind”.

During the tour you will learn about the events that lead to the construction of this majestic sanctuary and about its biblical context.

The tour starts in Lisbon with a brief introduction to the history of the town. The journey then continues by taking a ferry to “the other Side of Lisbon”, crossing the Tagus River and arriving in the Cacilhas, best known for its fresh delicious fish and historical Phoenician trading post.

Have you ever visited a real frigate? We will visit Frigate D. Fernando II and Glória, the last frigate under sail to serve in the Portuguese Navy, which is also the last warship on the “India run”(launched in 1843).

On the way to Cristo-Rei Sanctuary, we will have a chance to visit the Church of Our Lady of Good Success (rebuilt in 1759), and unwind in the garden adjacent to small beaches enjoying the view over the river and Lisbon.

The Cristo-Rei Sanctuary (Christ the King) stands in a beautiful park, where according to your preferences you can explore the nature, visit chapels and for the most adventurous ones – you can go all the way up to the top of the statue (at an additional cost of 4 Euros per person). The sanctuary of Cristo-Rei (Christ the King) 75 meters high, offers amazing views over Lisbon.
